Need to give your little one a Mani-Pedicure? Here are a few tips!
Here are some tips and tricks for clipping your baby's tiny nails, including what tools to use and the best time to trim them.
Keep them short
- Your baby's nails may be soft, but they can scratch! Trim them often to avoid sharp edges.
- They can also harbor dirt, which can easily be transferred to your baby’s mouth.
Use the right tools
- Pick up a pair of nail clippers or scissors or a nail file made for your baby's tiny fingers and toes.
- Avoid using razor blades or adult sized clippers!
Time it right
- It's easiest to clip the nails when your baby is asleep or distracted by a feeding.
- Tip: Nails are
softest after a bath.
Get a firm grip
- Hold your baby's hand in a firm grip so they don't wriggle free, or cause you to nick them.
- Push
the finger pad away from the nail, and carefully clip along the finger's curve.
Be prepared
- If you nick your baby's
skin, hold a tissue or cotton ball against the cut for a few minutes, or until
the bleeding stops.
Mind the toes
- Remember that your baby's toenails need clipping too, though not as frequently as fingernails.
- Avoid
trimming the sides to prevent in growing toenails.
Hope these few tips come in handy the next time you want to give your little one a Mani-Pedicure!!
In love & health
